Everything You Need to Know About #2 Crushed Stone
What Is #2 Stone?
#2 crushed stone is one of the largest numbered stone sizes, with angular pieces from about 1-1/2 inches up to 2-1/2 inches. It is washed, so there are no fines, and the big pieces leave wide gaps that water moves through easily.
The size and weight of each piece keep it from rutting or kicking out under tires, which is why #2 is the usual stone for construction entrances, where it knocks mud off truck tires before they reach the road. It is also used for culvert and ditch lining, as a heavy base under farm lanes and equipment pads, and as a drainage course under larger stone. For a smaller drainage stone, compare #4 crushed stone; for a finished driving surface on top, driveway gravel.
Quarries grade and name their large sizes a little differently from region to region, so we supply #2 or the closest local equivalent and confirm the exact material with you before delivery.

Common Uses
Construction Entrances
A thick pad of large angular stone where a job site meets the road knocks mud off truck tires before it is tracked out.
Culvert & Ditch Lining
Heavy pieces stay put where runoff concentrates, around culvert ends and along drainage ditches.
Heavy Base Layers
A first lift under farm lanes, equipment pads and soft ground, topped with a finer stone.
Drainage Courses
Wide open gaps carry large volumes of water through the stone and away from the work.
Why Choose #2 Crushed Stone
Stays Put
Large, heavy pieces resist rutting and do not kick out under tires.
Drains Fast
Washed stone with no fines leaves wide gaps for water to move through.
Bridges Soft Ground
Big angular pieces spread loads across wet or weak subgrade.
Low Maintenance
Once placed, it needs little upkeep beyond an occasional top-up.
