What Is #78 Stone?
#78 crushed stone is a small, clean chip stone with pieces from about 1/8 inch up to 1/2 inch. It sits between #8 crushed stone and #67 stone in size, and it is washed, so it carries little to no fines.
The angular chips lock together better than rounded gravel while still letting water through, which makes #78 a common choice for permeable paver bedding, drainage layers behind walls, pipe bedding and walkway or patio bases. For a larger drainage stone, compare #57 stone.
