Everything You Need to Know About RipRap
What Is RipRap?
RipRap is large, heavy stone, commonly ranging from 4 inches to 12 inches or more, used to armor surfaces against moving water and erosion. The size and weight of each piece let it stay put where smaller aggregate would wash away.
It is the standard material for protecting shorelines, stream banks, slopes, culvert outlets, and drainage channels. For smaller erosion-control stone or a heavy base layer, compare #4 crushed stone.
